Scientific expertise |
Dr. Kaspars Malnieks received his Ph.D in Material Science in Riga Technical university (RTU) 2016. The doctoral thesis was developed in the field of TiO2 and SiO2 sol-gel coatings. For the last five years, I have focused on the tribovoltaic effect and related matters. Our research team is investigating tribological nanogenerators with the possibility of using them as energy sources for small sensor elements or devices with low energy consumption. In the latest project, we have started research into Schottky diodes. We are trying to develop a tribovoltaic generators based on wide band gap semiconductor and transition metal oxides(TMO) in contact with metals. |
|
Capabilities |
We perform various electrical measurements for tribovoltaic devices. We also study the mechanical properties - tensile bending, deformation. We can also study surface properties with AFM, SEM, XRD, RAMAN. We work with different types of materials - polymers, metals, semiconductors. Fully equiped laboratory for oxides, ceramic and other material synthesis with different methods like auto combustion, hydrothermal synthesis and other. |
